No lumber on the Tundra – that’s why they call it tundra!

There are some caribou farms, and muskox as well. (The nearest restaurant to my place in the Yukon has muskox burgers. Yummy!)

Farming does not work – it is too cold, and the permafrost means things do not grow well. Other than very hardened plants used to the conditions, which are normally some grasses, ground willow, and a few flowers.

One of the reasons for the lack of economic activity in the North is that there is not a lot you can do with tundra. Most economies up here rely on mining, tourism, and services, particularly government services. That is also why the population is very low. An area the size of Europe has about as many people as a large town/small city.
